Efficiency of Argentina's power system questioned after blackout

06 of March of 2023

On Wednesday 1 March, a fire in a 500 kV power line caused a blackout in several provinces, including parts of the capital, Buenos Aires. Around twenty million Argentines were affected.

Faced with these developments, Moody's warned last Friday of the lack of investment in Argentina's electricity system.

Tomás Herrera Azorín, CTO of Aerolaser System, stresses the need to carry out regular and thorough inspections to prevent this from happening:

"Preventive maintenance is crucial, with aerial inspection, with Lidar systems, thermal cameras, photos and high-definition videos, as well as generating a twin of the infrastructure on a Cloud platform. This platform will allow us to analyse and simulate the movement of the lines and their impact on vegetation and the environment, and analyse the evolution between the different inspection campaigns, using artificial intelligence to detect anomalies and anticipate failures. Investing in inspection means guaranteeing supply and avoiding major problems and million-dollar lawsuits. Without sustained inspection over time, it is not possible to assess and carry out proper maintenance".

At Aerolaser System, a company in which Elewit has a stake, we provide power line inspection services using an aerial system designed by our engineers that is highly effective for the maintenance, monitoring and control of power lines.
