The UN General Assembly has established World Environment Day on 5 June. This day highlights the need to care for and protect the environment in which we live, to address environmental challenges and to promote sustainable actions to achieve healthier ecosystems, reduce pollution and ensure our environment for future generations.

Between the Aerolaser’s services, the powerline inspection has three advantages to analyse the status of the natural areas near to the network and to set preservation measures for the flora, fauna and the environment in general. Today we would like to emphasise the urgency and the duty to inspect power lines, because it is not just a simple routine or maintenance action on the power line. A thorough and meticulous inspection will ensure that the coexistence between the power line and nature is much friendlier, in order to reduce the environmental footprint as much as possible. At this point in time, and with the goals of the 2030 Agenda just a stone's throw away, it is essential for all companies, regardless of sector, to make a firm commitment to caring for our environment. It must be a top priority if they want to remain competitive.

In this respect, inspection could help in three main areas:

1. REDUCING THE RISK OF FOREST FIRES

Regular inspection of power lines helps to quickly identify and repair any anomalies, such as loose wires, hot spots or the risk of contact between the line and vegetation, which poses a risk of forest fires. Keeping power lines in good condition reduces the likelihood of faults that could lead to fires.

2. CONSERVATION OF BIODIVERSITY

Power lines can cross natural areas and habitats of various species. Proper surveys can identify and address problems that may affect local flora and fauna. For example, if a power line poses a danger to birds or tree-dwelling mammals, steps can be taken to minimise the impact, such as installing deterrent devices.

3. ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Regular inspections of power lines can detect any problems on the line. Correcting these problems prevents energy loss and improves the overall efficiency of the power system. An efficient grid means less use of natural resources and therefore a smaller environmental footprint.
