Digital twins and AI: Towards a sustainable future

Today, as every year on 21 March, we celebrate the International Day of Forests. It is a new opportunity to raise awareness, discuss current models and propose improvements for the future. This year's celebration also highlights the crucial role of forests as key actors in ensuring sustainability, environmental security and water supply.

The coexistence of nature and industry has never been easy. The move towards a more industrialised society has led to the neglect of the environment and the abandonment of our planet. However, more and more companies are committing themselves to respecting and preserving the natural environment.

The popularisation of this debate has greatly increased social and business awareness, leading companies to take more responsibility for caring for our environment. At the same time, advances in technology are helping to make practices more sustainable.

One such practice is the incorporation of digital twins, which are used as a key tool to improve sustainability efforts. They are useful both for the design of more environmentally friendly network infrastructures, with the advantage that the virtual model makes it possible to simulate the construction or upgrading of such a network without having a negative impact on the real terrain; and for cooperation in the preservation of forests, since preventive maintenance using artificial intelligence helps to minimise risks and accidents, such as fires caused by contact between power lines and vegetation. In addition, the early detection of anomalies and the simulation of possible scenarios allow greater knowledge and control of the behaviour of physical assets in any situation.

At AEROLASER, an Elewit investee company, we developed DALIA, our platform for asset inspection and generation of the electricity infrastructure twin. We are committed to using this tool to help companies in the energy sector meet their sustainability agenda, reducing the negative impact of their actions and building a more efficient and environmentally friendly future.
