  • The project involved the acquisition and analysis of LiDAR, photogrammetric and thermographic data to understand the condition of the Brazilian power grid

  • The experience of both companies in their respective sectors contributed to the success of the mission

In November, the Aerolaser System team travelled to Brazil to undertake a project to inspect 1,270km of power lines in the country.

Our experience in the inspection of power lines, with more than 250,000 km inspected, together with Helimarte's extensive experience in aerial work, made a positive contribution to the success of the mission, ensuring a comprehensive and efficient analysis of the Brazilian network.

Data capture during the inspection of power lines involves the use of a LiDAR and photogrammetry system that allows the detection of various anomalies, both visual and remote. In the case of visual anomalies, our sensors are able to detect defects in the smallest elements of the supports, such as oxidation of materials, crossings, absence of signalling or the presence of nests, among others. On the other hand, distance anomalies can alert us to the risk of contact between vegetation and the network, so that we can anticipate the occurrence of fires.

This inspection is complemented by the use of a thermographic camera to detect hot spots on power lines. Identifying these points in advance is crucial as it allows us to prevent power outages.

From the helicopter, our operators fly over the lines, collecting all the necessary information for later analysis. Our AeMission software, a flight management system, allows them to check the status of the sensors and the success of the data collection in real time.

All the information collected is stored on structured and organised SSD discs, which are located in the AePC in a convenient removable bay for data extraction and review at the end of the mission.

There is no doubt that this project would not have been possible without the partnership with Helimarte, a reference company in the aviation sector in Brazil with more than 20,000 hours of experience in aerial inspections.

Our extensive knowledge of the entire inspection process and the execution of this type of work has allowed us to develop the most advanced sensor systems in geospatial technology, adapted to the needs of our customers and the technical requirements of each project. Aerolaser System continues to excel in the development of advanced geospatial technologies, adapted to the specific needs of each project, consolidating its position as a benchmark in the industry.
